Washed up in Melbourne

The best way I can describe being in drug and alcohol addiction is, like being trapped under a rock for 15 years. Deprived of all the life skills any normal human being would have developed along the way, like how to do tax returns for example, or better yet… How to hang up washing… And that’s only the tip of the iceberg!

I liken being in a relationship addiction to a bad experience white water rafting. At first it is fun and exhilarating, something that looks and sounds so good from the brochure, but after some time spent doing it, it gets exhausting and before you know it, it is out of control. After being thrown around like a rag doll in a washing machine, loosing the boat you started with and all your friends who were in it. Stripped of all your belongings, you find yourself washed up in a heap, thousands of kilometres away from where you started, with absolutely no idea how the hell you ended up here!

And that, in a nutshell… is how this South African found herself washed up in Melbourne.
